Oscar Fashion Recap

Last night's Oscar awards was filled with color. It was refreshing to see so little black on the red carpet. Red and silver stole the show but one of my favorite trends was the less is more makeup. The fashion really had to pop in order to work and it totally did.

Anne Hathaway's Oscar host ensemble was great (we were a little worried when we saw the ill-fitting Valentino she walked the red carpet in but she made us proud, props Rachel Zoe)...

Our favorites of the evening (including the after parties)... Who did you love? Enjoy!

Mila Kunis in Elia Saab

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy

Celine Dion in Armani Prive

Emma Roberts in Jenny Packham

Jessica Biel in Versace

Jennifer Lawrence in custom Calvin Klein

Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang

Kate Beckinsale in Julien MacDonald

Academy Awards: live blogging!

Welcome to Frolic in Tulle's live Oscar red carpet.

6:00pm: Giuliana Rancic wearing Christian Siriano. Ryan in Burberry (per usual) I like the pocket square not sure I like it with the tie clip. Kelly Osbourne in Tony Ward. Who will we see first?

Jennifer Lawrence, young and beautiful, she looks stunning and love the red Calvin Klein, perfect makeup.

6:15pm: Melissa Leo, custom Marc Bower, not a fan of the hair.
Mila Kunis, wow, gorgeous lavender Elie Saab (spring couture 2011)

6:16pm: Armie Hammer is sweet, looking forward to seeing him in the J. Edgar biopic. Can Ryan think of more interesting questions?

6:22pm: Hailee Steinfeld, so pretty... and so age appropriate. lovely pink Marchesa

(wire image)

Florence Welch performing "If I Rise" from 127 Hours, lovely Valentino.
Michelle Williams with her BFF Busy Phillips, sleek silver column dress, but she can barely walk.

6:31pm: Mandy Moore, pretty sequin Monique Lhuillier, I really like the sparkly biceps.
Oh yea, Russell Brand with his mum.

6:35pm: Ryan talking with Michelle Williams, he makes it so painful with the awkward questions. She is in Chanel, pretty like a little pixy.
(wire image)

6:39pm: Amy Adams, necklace unnecessary, she loves navy blue and really wears it well, L'Wren Scott with Cartier.

6:50pm: Mark Ruffalo, so super cute. His wife has a super nice bob hairstyle.

ooh Jennifer Hudson in orange red tangerine Versace halter gown, love the side detail. Ok, after a longer look at the J Hudson dress, the halter is a bit thick for the side detail, no?.. thoughts?

6:58pm: Cate Blanchett, loving the lavender Givenchy (spring couture 2011).

Love Jeremy Renner, with his mom, too! ooh and Kevin Spacey, one of my favorites!!  oh, and there is Justin Timberlake, again with his mom!

7:03pm:  Scarlett Johansson in berry colored lace Dolce and Gabbana, the front looks a little strange with the, what looks like, black bustier peeking thru.

7:18pm: Helena Bonham Carter, is that dark green velvet? I really like her, even though I may not be keen on her dress. And Ryan makes it awkward by insulting her to her face, goodness.

7:20pm: Hilary Swank is so lovely and glowing tonight in silver sequins and feather Gucci. Silver is a color of the night.
(wire image)

7:25pm: Celine Dion look fantastic! Her hair is so shiny.

Penelope Cruz in red sequin v-neck with Javier Bardem and Sandra Bullock in red Vera Wang.

Reese Witherspoon in ponytail and black and white Armani Prive!

7:32pm: Matthew McConaughey so hot and Camilla Alves looks beyond stunning in that plunging neck black gown.

Gwyneth Paltrow, silvery gold Calvin Klein, performing tonight.

OMG, the woman standing behind Christian Bale is wearing my dream dress... Naeem Khan... oh its Rhea Durham... girl has good taste!

at Berdgorf Goodman

7:41pm: Ryan and Donald Trump, I am waiting for Ryan to put his foot in his mouth, oh wait, he already did. Can we please get Isaac Mizrahi back?!

7:43pm: Robert Downey Jr and wife, Susan. Loving his slick hair, they are so sweet together.

7:50pm: Halle Barry looks lovely, as usual, but all that tulle at the bottom of her Marchesa gown looks a little clumpy, no?

7:52pm:  I have switched over to ABC, sorry E! Why wasn't I here all along. Love Robin! Adore Tim!

8:01pm: Natalie Portman, shockingly obsessed with her earrings. The violet Rodarte is lovely on her.

8:05pm: Tim Gunn and JT is like a crazy awesome dream I had.

8:13pm: Gwyneth and Tim Gunn, just noticed her earrings, Awesome!

8:16pm: Robin Roberts looks beautiful. Signing off to sip some champagne before the festivities begin.

Don't forget to check in tomorrow for Frolic in Tulle's favorites.

Enjoy the show!

Oscar re-cap 2010

A little constructive criticism for the E! Oscar Red Carpet pre-show... not asking the starts what they are wearing on the red carpet is an annoying and obvious attempt to lure viewers into watching a fashion re-cap show being advertised for the following day. Bad form E!

Ryan Seacrest asking random and awkward questions does not a pre-show make.  It's a simple formula...

Ryan: "Sandra you are looking fabulous tonight, as always. What are you wearing?"
Sandra: "Thank you Ryan. This is Marchesa."
Ryan: "Well done. The gold dress screams Oscar winner. What are you most looking forward to tonight?"
Sandra: "Eating a hamburger. I haven't starved all day but I am starving."
Ryan: "Best of luck, we are cheering for you."

Simple, easy, quick. Someone bring back Isaac Mizrahi, he made it fun and interesting.

As for the actual awards show, I was sadly disappointed, it felt a little bit stuffy even when it was trying to be funny.

Ok, now onto the important stuff, Fashion! There were so many safe dress choices. Not a lot of wow but several that were pretty, perfectly chosen and lovely. Blue and blush were popular, as were statement earrings with bare necks and shoulders.

Who were your favorites??

Lovely
Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

Carey Mulligan in Prada

Pretty
Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab

Delightful
Zoe Saldana in Givenchy

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Dries Van Noten

Well played
Tina Fey in Michael Kors

Handsome
Ryan Reynolds in Tom Ford

Zac Efron in Calvin Klein

2009 Oscar Fashion Re-cap

I just wasn't that floored this year with the dresses. None were super standouts for me, maybe I have become too picky and expecting of great things but I was waiting for a "WOW" moment and it never really arrived.

Natalie Portman
* Raspberry color is fresh and lovely
* Love the bodice detail

Miley Cyrus
*While not he greatest Miley fan she really did have the most age appropriate dress.
*I think we forget she is only 15, so lots of layers and beading are spot on

Sarah Jessica Parker
*Oh SJP, love the ballerina dress with belt accessory.

Marissa Tomei
*I pray that I look this good at 44
*Beautifully sculpted gown and right on trend with the origami details

Heidi Klum
*Fun and Funky, but glam enough for the Oscars??

Diane Lane
*Simple and stunning per usual

Anne Hathaway
*I really like the bodice and paillette detail of her gown. The pooling of the fabric at the hem is gorgeous, but why the creamy color??
