Resort 2010

Definition of Resort Season by Frolic in Tulle:
The three to four months from November through February, when one escapes the cold bitterness of winter by jetting to warm summer locales to soak up the sun and reverse the effects of SAD.

I love resort wear. The idea of escaping to a faraway island with a Michael Kors hat, Eres bikini and Christian Louboutin platforms becomes my constant daydream - the yummy colors, the carefree dresses, the long kaftans that flow in the breeze - just too fun.

Resort 2010 came across as more practical with fewer designers creating full collections and some abandoning the idea all together, owing to the knowledge that many people might not increase their "portfolios" enough in the next 6 months to enjoy a lavish escape. Separates and suits were more prevalent; I guess the designers believe we will be working more on our getaways, maybe squeeze in a mini break in Palm Springs while visiting the LA office. I am not sold on the practicality of resort; after all, isn't it an aspirational season? One you work hard to afford? Or, maybe that is the point, creating a new resort that everyone can enjoy? But then, doesn't this backstep to a "wear it any place" resort collection ruin the mystique? This could go on forever...

Some of my favorite pieces from Resort 2010 are below. My favorite collections in their entirety are Zac Posen and Diane von Furstenberg, solid effort that exudes resort. Enjoy!
