Foiled - Spring 2010

If you are looking to add a little flash in your spring wardrobe then start thinking about the foil trend that marched down the runways (we saw shine in the form of structured metallic and sequins in Fall 09). Spring 2010 foil was subtle in some places and downright glaring in others.

You can stand out in a silver foil dress or just add a hint of luster with a flecked sweater/jacket. Remember that fit and color is the key. So, as you add a piece or take away keep foil in mind. Enjoy!

Lingerie, Brulee and You

When beautifully cut, on-the-bias preferably for the best draping, certain lingerie pieces can make an outfit light, airy and very sexy. A corset under a blazer, a camisole under a cardigan, there are lots of options.

In the late 70's, Josie Natori created the Natori Campany, famous for their beautiful lingerie that can be worn to bed or out to dinner. This was the first real foray into undergarments as outerwear. We saw this trend emerge as slip dresses again in the late 90's. Today, it reinvents itself with visible boning, corseting and adjustable straps.

This trend re-emerged in the Fall 09 collection by Christian Dior and it didn't stop there.

Midriff Riff

If Fall 2009 is all about the leg, then Spring 2010 is attempting to be the midriff.

I am not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, it is very bold and definitely fresh, but at the same time, is in not a little bit trashy (for lack of a better, less judgmental word)?

Do we have to bare a little belly to be the newest version of sexy? I kind of hope not. Some designs are subtle with a thin layer of chiffon layered on top and others are more blatant.

Maybe I am prudish, not bold enough to flaunt my middle unless I am on a beach in my J. Crew bandeau bikini. I say bravo to those who can and will flaunt this trend in 2010, I salute you and hope you don't get chilly.

Start your pilates sessions now ladies if you plan on running around bare bellied when May comes around.

Pick and Choose Fall Trends

So, if you haven't read this yet, you will now. There is a plethora of trends to filter through for Fall 2009.

Let me name a few: shear, shine, menswear, layers, rocker chic, floral prints, hippie chic, 40's glam.

I am overwhelmed just thinking about it. This is one of those seasons where picking and choosing trends is not only helpful, it is necessary. Fear not my fashion loved ones, this is a great year to try new things and let go of those you really shouldn't touch.

Below are the trends I am working into my wardrobe for the beautiful autumn days ahead. (Here is the link to my initial Fall Trend list directly following the shows, click here)

This is just the clothing side, the handbags, shoes and jewelry are still to come.

Enjoy!

Rocker Chic from Summer to Fall

It is time to prepare for the fall season! I know it hasn't felt like summer has started yet, but the days on the calendar say otherwise. Rocker chic, as I have chatted about before, is one trend you can incorporate now and transition to fall. The accessories below will carry you through two seasons - talk about economical! With Debbie Harry blasting from your ipod docking station, enjoy this foray into rock!

Spikey adds hardcore to any outfit. Silently rebel against "the man" by adding this to your summer work suit. Your co-workers will know you mean business.

throw on skinny jeans and a ribbed tank to finish the look.

oh and FYI... these new fall Christian Louboutin's are beyond amazing!

Resort 2010 - Part Three

As I sift through the fog of Resort 2010, my feelings for the new collections have become clear. While it is not the modicum of escapism that it was last year, it has changed to suit the times. Not everyone will be traveling to warmer climates during the winter, and those that do travel might stay a bit closer to home. The inspiration for Resort 2010 is one of value-add for Spring 2010. Add a piece here and a piece there, interchange the separates between office meetings and a quick respite to St. Barts. While you may be sitting in your office dreaming of the beach, you can channel the sea breeze with a new Chanel cropped jacket or bright colored Marc by Marc shift dress.

The good thing about Resort 2010 is the color infusion you will still get while working away the dreary days of winter. I am hoping for a stellar economic year so we can enjoy the true spirit of Resort and the escapes it conjures up in our heads.

A few more from Resort 2010... (click here for Part One and click here for Part Two).

Enjoy!

Spring and Summer Trend Review

So, we are well into Spring and inching closer to Summer each day. It is time for a recap, a little reminder of what to wear for the glorious sun filled season ahead. I picked three from the plethora of trends from Spring 09. Get excited!

Color - Bold
If ever there was a time to ransack those old boxes of 80's pop color, now would be it. Make it fast though, you have Rocker Chic to get ready for in the fall. Bold against black is the best and most easily worn combo. It can be pulled off with a bright cardigan over a simple black dress, add pops of color through accessories or be super brave and wear it as a statement.

Safari - Neutrals
A few weeks back I featured this trend with a few of my favorite pieces. Well, as we moved closer to Summer the options have increased and so has my favorites list! This has great versatility and we will see the neutrals continue through the fall (but will have a little shine added to them).

Geometric - Black and White
Easy to wear and easier to find. This trend has really taken off from high end to budget retailers. Make sure that the pattern fits your body type, the pattern should accent your favorite parts not make them enemy #1. As for fall, we will see the geometry more in the structure rather than in the pattern.
